Advantages of National Biological's Phototherapy Equipment
Phototherapy or light therapy, involves exposing the skin to ultraviolet light on a regular basis and under medical supervision. Treatments
are done in a doctor's office or psoriasis clinic or at home with phototherapy unit. The key to success with light therapy is consistency.
Healthcare providers are becoming more aware of the seriousness of the impact that psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo have on patients’ Quality
of Life (QoL).Widespread internet access provides more information, a greater number of sources of information, and allows large groups of
patients to interact with each other. Technological and pharmaceutical companies have recently begun to realize the amount of patients with
UV-treatable skin conditions and how seriously their quality of life is affected. As a result, companies are now actively developing and
promoting their products.
National Psoriasis Foundation does not support the use of indoor tanning beds as a substitute for phototherapy performed with a prescription
and under a doctor's supervision. Indoor tanning raises the risk of melanoma by 59 percent, according to the American Academy of Dermatology
and the World Health Organization, and does not provide the type of light that most effectively treats psoriasis.
The use of ultraviolet light in the treatment of photo-responsive skin diseases is safe, highly effective and time tested, making it an essential tool in
dermatology offices of the 21st century. Daavlin has consistently led the clinical marketplace with innovations such as integrating dosimetry, built
in treatment protocols, a patient database and EMR compatibility to make the delivery of phototherapy safe for patients and trouble-free for
physicians and their staff.

Once Quality of Life is improved, non-targeted UV phototherapy can be used to address the remaining disease and provide a low dosage maintenance
therapy. Non-targeted UV phototherapy is an excellent treatment for large body surfaces (which is too large to economically treat with targeted UV)
and is less toxic than systemic or biologic drug use. Patients should opt for less toxic treatment options first, where applicable, and always be mindful
of how any treatment affects their quality of life. Healthcare providers would much rather pursue less aggressive treatments if possible.
