Mourne Mountains: Ambulances in Army cadets rescue
More than 40 teenage Army cadets have been rescued from a mountain after getting caught in extreme weather during a
camping trip to Northern Ireland. A massive rescue operation involving emergency crews from the Coastguard, Mountain
Rescue and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was launched. Ten accident and emergency crews, a hazardous area
response team and Mountain Rescue went to the scene. The cadets had to be brought off the mountain on foot instead of
being airlifted to safety, a NI Ambulance spokeswoman said.
Reports of the size of the group differ but at least 50 people were believed to be in trouble. The mayor's office responded to
our request for more information about the incident and the state of Houston's emergency equipment with the unedited note
below: "The mayor is concerned about the safety of, and the equipment used by, all first responders and all other city
employees, and for the safety of all Houstonians, including the person being transported today.
The investment will help paramedics focus on providing health-care, rather than their own health becoming jeopardized. A new
ambulance stretcher was on loan for Marlborough paramedics to practice on before the new appliance arrived in October. The
staff were like children with a new toy as they got used to the powered stretcher, Hill said. "We really want to make sure that our
health-care providers are providing health-care and not be worried about their backs and their knees and potentially dropping a
patient," Hoffman said. "That's why having technology work with health professionals really does create better opportunities for
reducing costs on injuries and other areas, as well as protecting the workers and the patients."
The emergency team set up a base at Annalong Community Hall to treat those who were hurt. An air ambulance was dispatched
landed at Northumberland Hills Hospital and the paramedics were driven to the scene to assist. The tow truck partially lifted the
cab off the man, but he was in extreme pain so that was halted.
